I think that Mike Rydberg hit the target. I took a quick look at the PPT presentation that August Carideo suggested at www.ohvcmg.org/download/22/<http://www.ohvcmg.org/download/22/> .That must be the CUP in question. What I did see was several mentions of z/OS and none that I noticed of VM. So the question remains, is the CUP used for anything in performance monitoring and reporting in VM? I know that our h/w people do not use VM for dynamically configuring anything.
