Yes the OSA does support the Layer 2. It took us some time and effort
but it does work. Are you setting this up so that it allows you the
ability to move
Linux guest from one VM to another while retaining it's IP address?
If so you will need to start assigning MAC addresses and keeping track
of that as well.

This is what we used to set the layer 2 OSA

You will need to set the group:

You will also need to set the group:

" CP SET PORT GROUP GLAN515 JOIN F### "

" CP DEF VSWITCH VSWF### ETH VLAN 515 RDEV F### NAT 515 PORTN OSAPORT "

" CP SET VSWITCH VSWF### GRANT XXXXX " <XXXXX = guest name or user
account>

<note> you will need to have a LAN to point too.

Subject: Does OSA Express2 Ethernet support zVM layer2 mode

We are running zVM on z900 box and going to let vswitch work in ethernet

mode (layer2). But it seems didn't work. I suspect the OSA adapter may
not
support this function. Do you have any idea or suggestion? Thanks!

The message I got:
portname: UNASSIGNED RDEV: F320 Controller: NONE Error: No Layer 2
portname: UNASSIGNED RDEV: F324 Controller: NONE Error: No Layer 2
