You have a pause with SNAPDUMP - as Richard points out how longs depends on the size of your system. TN3270 sessions may drop and ATMs will go standin (oh wait, that's just me) but it is non-destructive and does nicely put out status messages on the Operator Console to keep your heart from completely jumping out of your chest. Maybe it can be done off peak if you don't like the dramatic pause in the middle of your peak processing.
