Sorry if I'm being unclear. If you put a comment delimiter anywhere prior to the end of a statement, it is a syntax error, not a comment. OUTPUT 111 3390 ; comment would not interpret the semicolon as a volid. And while the characters you list are allowed, they are not valid. The IBM VOL1 label standard defines the label to be A-Z and 0-9. It permits other characters for compatibility, but only when placed within a quoted string.
