The vary off/on should work. At least they do for regular CPs. During the 
busiest time of year for the TPF Development group, we frequently have to 
provide two engines to be dedicated to a native TPF test system. We vary them 
off, the native LPAR is activated, and the tests are run, the native LPAR is 
deactivated, and we vary them back on. This happens two or three times per week 
for three months almost (there has been 1 of the last 13 years that we didn't) 
every year. We have never had any problems with it.
