I just listened to the virtual telecast of the new IBM ZEnterprise
system (or group of systems) as IBM would call it…a system of systems
integrating
a mainframe with blade servers.

I have to admit it’s interesting and it’s going after the
virtualization market.  Looks like it
could be targeted against VMware.

The high end mainframe is water cooled and has to be
expensive but it is quite capable.

Looks like it will have a powerful interface to manage
blades etc.

So, the comment I might have made in the past about IBM
trying to help management trim down the size of the systems programming staffs
might hold some water.

If you can manage the mainframe and blade farm with a new integrated
group of systems type people why have multiple client/server people and
mainframe people?  Pick the best from
both sides and combine them into one group and get rid of the dead wood.

That’s my take at first glance; don’t shoot me.
