The $PAGE$ and $SPOOL$ user ids in the USER DIRECT file are place-holders where you can (if you want to) list your PAGE and SPOOL areas. That way, the page and spool areas will appear in such reports as produced by DIRMAP and DISKMAP. In other words, it's a handy place to keep PAGE and SPOOL allocation information. CP does *not* use these user ids to locate it's spool and page areas, either....CP examines all of the online DASD to see which one(s) have PAGE and/or SPOOL space allocated on them, and uses those volumes. So you can add PAGE or SPOOL volumes (via CPFMTXA, etc.) and not update the $PAGE$ or $SPOOL$ entries in the user directory file if you'd like. Those directory entries are there simply for your convenience in keeping track of what you've placed where. Have a good one.
