For zBX purposes, the need for common time is to get logs properly sequenced. It doesn't have to be ultra-accurate, just "close enough". By resyncing the BOC every hour, that becomes doable. If you want your apps to all have a common time reference, then run STP on the z side and an NTP client on each non-z OS image. Will there be alternatives to that in the future? Dunno.
