New issue 874 by zhang.dav: Alt-tab switching away from Firefox 3.5.9 in
KDE 4.4.2 (standard Fedora packages) causes keyboard input to be broken
http://code.google.com/p/ibus/issues/detail?id=874
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
OS (Linux distributions, UNIX or ...): Fedora 12
Architecture (i386, x86_64): 64
IBus version: The bug does not require ibus to be active (I'm just trying
to type English)

Input method name and version: none, just typing letters
Python version: python-2.6.2-4.fc12.x86_64
dbus version: dbus-1.2.16-9.fc12.x86_64
dbus-python version: dbus-python-0.83.0-6.fc12.x86_64
gtk version (if bug is about gtk applications):
qt version (if bug is about qt applications):qt-4.6.2-8.fc12.x86_64,
kdebase-4.4.2-1.fc12.x86_64
Steps to repro:
1. Open Konsole, Kwrite, Gedit, or pretty much anything
2. Open Firefox (I renamed ~/.mozilla to ensure clean profile, but it didn't
make a difference)
3. Set active window to Firefox using any method
4. Alt-tab to the window opened in step 1
5. Try to type anything.
Expected: The app opened in step 1 receives keyboard input.
Actual: Nothing shows up, e.g. I can't give Konsole commands or use hotkeys.
Alt-F4 works though.
6. Use mouse to set focus back to Firefox
7. Use mouse to set focus to the app opened in step 1
Expected/Actual: keyboard works
Steps that do not repro (either of these by itself work as expected; not
necessary to do both at the same time):
- In step 2 above, use an app different from Firefox. For example
alt-tabbing
back and forth between Konsole and Gedit works fine.
- In step 4, use the mouse to choose the active window instead of using
Alt-tab
I initially filed this at the KDE bug tracker
(https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=234751) because it did not happen in
KDE 4.4.1 but this began happening as soon as I updated to 4.4.2 and
rebooted on both of my machines. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that
deleting ~/.xinputrc fixed the problem with no other changes.
Also, I noted in the comments of the KDE bug tracker entry that in step 1,
if the application chosen is xev, then alt-tabbing to it from Firefox and
pushing keyboard buttons causes xev to display the expected output (i.e.
keypresses do not disappear like they do in kwrite, gedit, etc).
