Hmm.., curious. I guess your issue might be Ubuntu specific.
I may not commit the candidate patch since we know it does not resolve
anything.
When I tried Ubuntu in bug 519, I noticed application-indicator intercepts
key events.
So I suggested to remove the application-indicator feature in comment #2:
