Comment by fayer012:
ibus is better than many other input solutions in Ubuntu for multi-language
users like me (using both Chinese and Japanese). Its pinyin is particularly
convenient which is similar to some popular Windows input methods, e.g.,
Sogou, Google pinyin, etc. However, it would be better if ibus pinyin can
automatically update word library based on hot words on internet as Google
pinyin.
I'm writing also to report a bug in ibus Pinyin in recent release. After a
recent (several days, maybe one month, ago) update of ibus components (not
sure which ones), a problem occurred when inputing in gedit by ibus pinyin.
See below for details.
To faster operate, I prefer using keyboard as input instead of mouse. So
when, say, saving a modified file in editor like gedit in Ubuntu, I use key
combination "Alt-f" (open "File" menu) and then "s" (select "Save" menu
item) to save (faster than "Ctrl-s" for me since to press "Ctrl" one has to
move hand). Previously this operation was ok, after that update, I found
pinyin input in writing emails in Evolution becomes more convenient, since
it won't bring up an annoying "Discard Changes" dialog any more when
pressing "ESC" just to cancel a wrong pinyin input (not to cancel writing
email). However, the key combination "Alt-f" and "s" in gedit fails. It can
be easily reproduced as below.
When ibus pinyin is on and switched to English input by pressing "Shift"
(or else latter "s" stroke will bring up a small Chinese character
selection window), after "Alt-f" open the "File" menu, pressing "s" (or any
other keystokes) will not select "Save" menu item (or other items), the
keystroke becomes input in your saving text ('s' becomes the content of the
file)!
My Ubuntu is 10.04 . I followed the instructions in
http://code.google.com/p/ibus/wiki/PinYinUserGuideCN to install ibus.
By the way, it would be convenient if ibus has a better bug report
interface. Thank you.
