Dear reporter:
Your issue can be solved by installing "gnome-icon-theme" package.
sudo apt-get install gnome-icon-theme
It is a packaging problem in Ubuntu.

So I'd like to close this issue as Notabug, since this is not a problem in
our side.

BTW, I guess "preview option window" you mentioned is often referred
as "candidate window".
