New issue 1619 by [email protected]: gnome shell / input freezes on
ibus-daemon startup
http://code.google.com/p/ibus/issues/detail?id=1619
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
OS (Linux distributions, UNIX or ...): Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Architecture (i386, x86_64): x86_64
IBus version: 1.4.1
Input method name and version: anthy 9100h
Python version:2.7.3
dbus version:1.4.18
dbus-python version: 1.0.0
gtk version (if bug is about gtk applications): 3.4.2 (?)
qt version (if bug is about qt applications):N/A
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. start ibus-daemon (optionally with --verbose or -d)
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
ibus-daemon should start up and a tray icon in Gnome 3.6 should appear
without freezing the input method / gnome shell.
As soon as ibus-daemon is started and the tray icon appears the gnome shell
freezes. Processes are still executed (e.g. music playback) but system does
not respond to keyboard input. Mouse movement does work, though system does
not respond to mouse clicks. In fact, the gnome shell is not re-drawn
anymore (input cursor not "blinking").
I already tried the following without success:
sudo aptitude purge ibus ibus-anthy
sudo aptitude install ibus ibus-anthy
---
Starting ibus-daemon on tty1 does NOT freeze the system but produces errors
of a missing DISPLAY (which I expected).
---
Executing "ibus-daemon --verbose &> ibus.log" in gnome shell and
immediately switching to tty before ibus is fully loaded results in errors
regarding gconf not accepting symbols like "/" as keys or file names (see
attached log; german). With this method system usage on tty1 is still
possible, but switching to gnome shell freezes the system again.
