New issue 1693 by [email protected]: ibus should not allow the version mix
http://code.google.com/p/ibus/issues/detail?id=1693
I previously filed this PR:
https://code.google.com/p/ibus/issues/detail?id=1689
It was marked as invalid, because this is due to the incompatible version
mix.
My corresponding Debian PR doesn't move anywhere. I am not sure what
happens in such case, when Debian maintainer isn't responsive.
I have a better idea:
ibus shouldn't allow plugins with incompatible versions to be used. It
should just fail with an error message when ibus-pinyin-1.4.0 is attempted
to be used with ibus-1.5.3.
Currently there is no explicit failure, and the failure is inconspicuous
and manifests itself in the silent malfunction of ibus-pinyin.
Even if the Debian package maintainer will eventually synchronize the
versions, this will not prevent the problem occurring in the future. But my
suggestion, when implemented, will make sure this problem will not happen
again.
