I cannot reproduce your problem.
I tried trusty live desktop with 2014-03-16 version. It seems the
installation was failed.
If you would provide a video to understand your problem or a patch to fix
the problem or another example application code, it would be great.
Control+Shift+Alt+R can save a video on gnome-shell but I don't know about
Ubuntu:

If you don't specify '--xim', your X11 application does not use ibus.
Currently I'd suggest IBUS_ENABLE_SYNC_MODE=0 by default.
