Why not call Catalina Yachts. While I have never need to do that I understand they will answer questions relating to the Cat 27.

The hatch that I can purchase will need some cleaning but the nice advantage for me is I can work on this at home rather than on the dock with a gaping hole in my boat. The downside is that it looks different. Mine seems to have some lateral strengtening ribs and the one I saw looks flat. Maybe it is a drop in replacement maybe not. It is hard to tell utntil I buy it. As for repairing the old one, it is just another weekend that I am not sailing. I have a template for the rear teak. THe front weather board I will have to fab from scratch as mine is missing. I called catalina direct and they said they didn't know if the dimentions changed but warned me that even in the same year there is a lot of variability between boats. The hatch off one 1974 may not fit on another 1974 boat let alone on from 1980. (I believe it is called a sea hood) Years ago, I considered replacing my hatch with one from a newer storm-damaged boat, but decided it wasn't worth the effort, but now I can't remember why. I don't think Catalina changed the deck molding at all, so at least in theory, it could be done... On the other hand, repairing the flanges, and replacing the wood trim isn't too difficult. I have a single hatch with front and rear faced teak and flanges that fit into teak rails on the sides. Theirs seems to have two parts a front and rear cover with a cut out to fit around the mast. The front part seems to have the flanges on the sides and a teak front surface. The parts are in ohio, I am in pittsburgh and my boat is in maryland. I was planning on replacing mine since the front and rear teak pieces on mine are missing/damaged and the flange seems weak.
