Hi John,

The clip to the backstay, is IMHO only for holding the boom with the sail
furled. I have my lazy jacks rigged to support the boom, and don't see a need
to adjust them.

In effect, I have three normal boom heights.

The backstay clip is the highest, the topping lift is the lowest and the raised
mainsail is in between.

While sailing, the lazyjacks are loose enough to not distort sailshape in any
way, but not so loose as to slap the sail. As soon as the sail starts to
lower, the boom drops a few inches, tightening the lazyjacks. After the sail
is down, I tie it with sail stops, and then hang the boom on the backstay clip.
This loosens the lazyjacks enough to get the sail cover on.

I used a halyard to support the boom, while I worked out the lengths of the
various pieces of the lazyjack system.
