I just did a system in my 79. Can shoot pics and post later but here is the jist:
I installed Panasonic head unit in the locker. It powers two older Radio Shack Minimus 7 speakers that I got off ebay. They are great 2 way small footprint speakers. In the bottom of the locker is an 8" Bazooka tube that has its own built in amplfier. The head unit takes care of powering the Minimus speakers. The whole benefit to a small subwoofer is that you get bass without have to have large visible speakers. The head unit has a remote - that is velcro'd near the companion way so I can adjust volume, station etc from the cockpit. It also plays mp3's and has an external input for an ipod or mp3 player. System investment was under $150 and it sound great.
