Hi,

  Todays question is compatibility. I have a a 1973 c-27 with a traditional
forestay (hank -on) I was lucky with my gift of gab and ended up scoring a main
sail (full batten;thurston made) along with a complete roller furling and sail
which was previously used on a Balboa 26. i don't know the make of the unit but
will describe it to the best on my ability. The only marking on the unit is on
the stainless steel drum and that is of a largs letter "S" with a picture of a
whale cut into the mid section of the letter. If someone can identify this
brand it would be greatly appreciated. It appears the unit does not have a self
contained halyard and guide track like my prior CDI set up on my Catalina 22.
This one has the stainless drum, the swivel at the top and the forestay
incorporated to complete the rig. Since the sail is currently rolled up on the
rig that is all I can tell. It also appears that the sail is stitched onto the
forestay and finished off with a leather wrap to the top and bottom(furling
unit;something I am not familiar with) thus creating an all inclusive unit. my
first question is can anyone identify the brand based on the marking "S" with a
whale thru the center of the"S" and my second question would be, since I have a
c-27 and this unit is from a Balboa 26, would the furling unit be compatable
and what would I need to look into besides taking a measurement of the furling
unit and comparing it to the c-27 forestay? or would I have to take it to
someone in the off season and have them cut my forestay and add the swivel top
and furling drum to the forestay then have a new sail made and stitched on. Or
is it even worth it to save s few bucks lol... Any assistance as always is
appreciated!!!
