For what it is worth, I have a ST 2000 (George) and have experienced the same problems as noted below. Sometimes even when the water is almost placid George can not seem to get it together. It is like he is searching (wandering) for the correct compass setting, sometimes swinging 20 degrees. In these instances I feel that I did not properly set it up. I also feel this problem is possibly amplified with inboard engines (prop forward of rudder). Those that have an auto helm and an outboard, what is your experience? Any advice would be appreciated? In any event, George is one of the most important and beneficial sailing tools to have when you are sailing alone. John Jennings

I have an older ST 1000, but I go sailing to sail, not sit back and enjoy the ride, so I only use the autopilot for short intervals, and only in certain conditions. Phil is correct about running in following seas, the ST 1000 is just too slow to respond. While hand steering, I find myself anticipating waves, and "pre-acting"I think it depends on your expectations of what an autopilot will do. I have an older ST 1000, but I go sailing to sail, not sit back and enjoy the ride, so I only use the autopilot for short interv Again, because the pilot cannot anticipate, it does not do very well sailing high into the wind, so i ease off a bit and it does pretty well. It also does pretty well on a broad reach. Bottom Line...I would get another ST 1000 Bob Stockley Sundance #2436 --- In [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) , "Joe McCary" <j...@...> wrote: > > Is anyone using the ST1000 on a Cat 27 or do we need the larger boat model? > > > > > > Joe McCary > > Aeolus II. #4795, West River, MD > > www.aeoluswestriver www. > > joe at photoresponse dot com > > > > From: [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) [mailto:[email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) ] On Behalf Of > sharon speller > Sent: Tuesday, October 27, 2009 7:17 PM > To: [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) > Subject: Re: [IC27A] Re: Any suggestions on a good, used autopilot (wheel) > > > > > > I was looking at the autohelm ST1000.
