While your at it, if you still have the old pipe muffler, replace it with a 
lift muffler.

I had it crack 30 miles off shore and the inconvenience it caused was 
tremendous. My M18 had only 150 hours on it when I bought the boat. My mechanic 
told me the original design was poor and actually dangerous but I didn't want 
to spend the money on something that wasn't broken. He was right!

Not only was I stuck in the middle of the ocean with an over heating engine and 
black smoke filling the cabin.....and water, it was getting dark and I still 
had 10 miles to go. I was motoring because of the 30kt winds....up came the 
sails and it was a long wild, wet ride home. Not fun!!!

I had to clean the entire boat out and buy a whole new exhaust system. Not only 
does my boat spit water better than ever, my temp gauge never gets remotely hot.

I would have paid twice in order not to have that experience.
