Derek,

What you've done is correct but here's the rub. The bottom of the keel slope
downward to the rear. If the yard ignores that and levels the boat's
waterline (which is normal practice) excess pressure is placed on the rear
tip of the keel. That excess pressure deforms the floor of the keel stub
over the next few weeks and months and you get the "Catalina Smile" in the
spring.

I've never heard mention of blocking the front of the cradle as a fix to get
her draining correctly, but that said, if you've got the boat supported
correctly in the cradle I'd be inclined to block the front too. Normally I'd
suggest the keel blocking be sloped but that would have you starting over at
this point.

Subject: [IC27A] Boat angle sitting on cradle

I uploaded a pic of the boat as it sits on its cradle:

com/pics/c27_cradle.jpg

I just redid everything to catalina spec - yet there still appears to be a
pitch problem. The boat sits to low in the front - so it doesn't drain off
the decks or in the cockpit area. I would assume a normal fix is to have the
yard put some support under the front of the cradle.

The boat seems to sit fine on the cradle - is this just normal?

Thanks
