Doug,

Look Outboard on the Transom, Starboard,     Under the Rub Rail, near to the 
edge of the hull and transom.

Like most Catalina 27's, It's probably almost impossible to see in normal day 
light.  They often are sort of covered with Gelcoat.
So, if you can't see it clearly,  Try a couple of methods
1.  A flashlight held at the edge with the beam Across the transom
2.  Tissue paper RUBBING.  Lay a sheet of paper on the area and lightly rub a 
pencil across. Like tombstone rubbings.

You should see the slight Indentations that are the number/letter HIN

Another question please. I was looking for the HIN number on the C27 but did 
not see it. Anybody know where it might be located?
