Sadly, my preferred loft misplaced my sails and completely lost my mainsail
cover last year. (Blame goes to the teenage son of the loft owners who is
unfortunately obviously new to the idea of responsible business.) We sorted
out the proper sails after multiple tries but never did recover the mainsail
canvas weather cover.
I need a new mainsail cover. Any suggestions for someone on a budget? I've
been unemployed so cost is a major factor but I am not willing to totally
cheap out on this either. Our original 1988 Catalina sails are likely not
ideal racing sails but they're what we have, and I just want to protect our
mainsail so we don't have to replace it soon. I know a replacement mainsail
cover runs around $250 for a Sunbrella canvas version, any ideas for better
pricing?
On a related note, I welcome any Chicagoans on this list suggesting a
reasonably priced loft. We've used Nielsen Sailmakers in Racine (where we
winter our boat) but this year the trunk of my car has been my storage space
after a disappointing service last year. I need to find a proper loft that
can examine/repair/clean/store without costing one of my precious few arms.
Thanks for your advice,
David
