The main mast lower shaft band is 3'2" I think. What are the rules in trimming the sail for a race? In applying downhaul force because of having a sliding goosneck, can the mains'l be pulled down via the downhaul tackle which would or could pull the foot below the shaft band? Adjusting the downhaul so that the foot is at the lower mast, use a cunningham to adjust the luff? Or, am I not focusing on the real point and that is raising the main to the upper shaft band and to hell with the first part of the paragraph? I hope this is not confusing.
