Since I insulate and shrink wrap my boat in the winter, my solar vent
(installed in the hatch forward of the mast) doesn't receive sufficient light
to charge the battery and therefore it doesn't operate. To avoid the mold
issue, I installed an Ionic Breeze GP air sanitizer that kills mold and
mildew.

A picture of both the solar vent and Ionic Breeze are on the second page
of my web site, ahsovereignty.com.

I have two solar powered vents. The 4" vent is in through the hatch
forward of the mast over the head. The 3" is located aft of the anchor locker
over the V berth. To help with air circulation my companion way hatch
boards have vented slots in them. During the winter while the boat is on the
hard I place three moisture absorbing containers in the boat. They really
help. You can purchase on-line or at your local Home Depot/Lowes. With all
of this I still have an occasional spot of mildew here and there. During
the winter I also remove all cushions, etc from the boat and leave all
inside hatches and doors open.

Mildew, mold (same thing?) Has been a problem on my 27 and is getting
worse, I have purchased a vent and will install it when the winter cover comes
off. I am curious where others have placed the vent. The problem areas in
my boat are in the quarter berth and around and under the windows. + the
area over the ice box.

Thanks-
Denis
