My 83 is a Universal diesel with a 14 gal. tank.

My 1977 with Atomic 4 gasoline had an 11 gallon tank, and I think the 1978's 
had the same aluminum tank.  
 
I think the 1983 has a diesel and a different tank, but I'm not at all sure.

The original tank on my 83 held 14 gal.  Look carefully at the plate on top of 
the tank the capacity may be there.
