[IC27A] extra exhaust

hi all,

what, obvious and other, areas should i check to confirm the source of exhaust 
swirling around within my engine compartment? it's not a lot but it is visible 
and smelly. it has also blackened a fair amount of the compartment walls as 
well. thanks -rob
