Judy, I would NEVER navigate by cell phone! I would in an emergency use the
cell to get a position fix to plot on a standby paper chart.

Joe,

This is certainly a local hazards comment but on SF Bay if it's not
specifically a NOAA chart many hazards have been known to be omitted. Most
notably in the early days of GPS Garmin units sold by West Marine were
missing islands within the bay if they had not roads on them. The Rock of
movie fame for one was just missing as was The Brothers. Those are big
enough to miss on a clear day. Having been whiteout condition on SF Bay
more than once bad charts are bad news here. Along with the large missing
items are all the small submerged hazards like old pilings many of which
will ruin you day quickly.

Judy, I too have a Blackberry, those iPhone apps look tempting, but the
prices are high too. I have google maps on my Blackberry and while it is NOT
a nautical chart, it is pretty accurate. I am on Verizon and have GREAT
reception here on The Chesapeake.

Has anybody tried 'em? How about http://earthnc.com/go-mobile for Android
and iPhone? I've got a blackberry, and I haven't been able to get it to
work right.

Just curious.....
