Unless the sheaves designed for both I say probably not. What was done on my 
boat I believe, was the old ropes cut from the wire and a thimble swaged in, 
which would give a loop at both ends. Then new rope was tied with a bowline. 
This way you can replace the line when it wears and not have to mess with the 
mast head.
