Subject: [IC27A] Keel question and bimini update

Hey everyone. Quick question, is our '78 fin keel lead or iron?? The reason I'm
asking is we bumped an unmarked pipe last night coming out of the harbor. An
overboard blind inspection revealed no damage and everything looked fine in the
bilge with no water being taken on. But it raised the question of what kind of
keel we have.

Secondly, we installed the new Taylor bimini on the jib car rails in 5 minutes.
We didn't even have to modify the jib cars like I thought. We just attached
with a shackle just like you would a spin sheet. Works great, clears the
lifelines and winches just fine and best of all, is fully adjustable!! I can't
tell you what a difference it's made. We were out last evening and while it was
hot, everyone was reasonably comfortable. Now for the Taylor bimini:

These are not top of the line by any stretch. But for the price ($240 including
shipping) I really can't complain. The frame is very sturdy but the stitching
on the fabric is sub par. Good news is a replacement top is on $75 so if I get
3-5 years out of it and have to replace the top I'm still ahead of the game. So
there you have it.
