Wives and heat while on a sailboat is something that does not mix well. My
wife will sit at home and raise the temp on the AC until it is almost 80¯ but
put her on the boat at 80° and she is ready to munity. In fact when we bought
the boat a bimini was one requirement she had (I had to locate one before she
would set foot onboard. And of course the first weekend we spent on the boat
several years ago, a Memorial Day weekend, was about 95° and I still hear about
it when I mention I want to spend a weekend on the boat. So, don’t feel bad
about your wife’s heat problems. I have thought about getting a marine AC unit
but have resisted because of the outrageous cost. And I should also mention
that she won’t consider fall cruising because it is too cold… it’s hard to
figure women.

We have a couple small 12v fans so she can direct one on her if needed. Also,
when we anchor I let out enough scope and cleat it, and then some extra and
take the line outside the boat and cleat it on the stern, so the breezes come
in the BIG companionway to help abate the temps. If the wind picks up I just
un-cleat the line at the stern and let it ride to the bow. The extra 25+ feet
of scope is a nice extra benefit and it usually means a more comfortable ride.

Subject: Re: [IC27A] Hatches

For me opening the hatch while sailing always results in my jib sheets getting
hung up on the hatch. When not sailing I open the hatches and have a 12 volt
fan that works well. My wife doesn't like the heat either.

With the dog-days of summer fast approaching, getting maximum air through the
cabin is a must.

I don't have a wind-scoop, but I'm hemmoraging money on other projects and plus
it seems to be kinda a lot to fool with for someone who doesn't do a ton of
cruising. In the spirit of working with what I've got, I was wondering what
y'all have found as the best opening angle for the two small hatches and big
forward hatch to promote wind flow. Is 45 degrees best?

Now, fully admitting that this may be a dumb question, I'm happy to look dumb
here if it yeilds a response that helps keep the cabin cool and my old lady
happy!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Thanks,
Bailey
