The general answer for any given body of water a tide cycle with a 2 foot
change will have a significantly low current than a 6 foot tide cycle.

I should note there are a many locations where general knowledge in
insufficient. SF Bay has several locations that create tides beyond hull
speed almost daily. I don't think there is anything as bad as some of the
narrow passages in the San Juans, except maybe down by the GGB south tower,
but going backwards will get you attention.

I guess I'm recommending you look for some local knowledge and maybe a
navigation class.

Subject: [IC27A] And now....Current Events

hi all,

i have a question regarding tides and curent speeds. after searching the web
and finding way too much info on the subject I decided i'd just ask someone
in this here group. here goes. if a high tide and a low tide have a
difference of 6 feet will the current speed be greater than if they had a
difference of 2 feet? i know there's more factors involved here but i just
need the dirty basics. thanks! -rob
