Some bulkhead mount compasses have a range of angles they can be mounted to. The one recently put in my 25. I think it was a Ritchie was designed for the bulkhead to have some angle and the compass plate itself has enough float to handle a range of angles. It also functioned as a heel indicator and could float up to I think 30 degrees of heel.
