Some bulkhead mount compasses have a range of angles they can be mounted to.
The one recently put in my 25. I think it was a Ritchie was designed for the
bulkhead to have some angle and the compass plate itself has enough float to
handle a range of angles. It also functioned as a heel indicator and could
float up to I think 30 degrees of heel.

What happens if it isn't exact? Then, what happens when the boat is heeled and
pitching? Just curious....

are usually located. i'm mounting a new compass there and need to fair the
angle to 90 degrees. it just goes to show ya, it's always something. thanks-rob
