Long time lurker here with a question. My faithful Universal 5411 diesel is
remarkably reliable. Almost. Just recently it started having trouble starting.
Engine turn over very well and it eventually starts (might take a couple of
tries), runs rough for a while, then does fine after it heats up. It has a good
supply of clean fuel. All seems in order. During the rough starting procedure
it seems to be overly rich, some sooty oily gunk coming out of the exhaust.

My partner and I are guessing maybe it is a bad glow plug that is not igniting
the fuel in one cylinder, then when it warms up everything runs smoothly. My
other guess would be maybe a fuel injector that is very warn?

Is there a way to diagnose this? Does someone have experience with this kind of
problem with a 5411?

Thanks in advance!
