>>> Anyway, I switched Kolur to a sidepull when I saw my instructor ride him in a bit in the arena. He kept poking his nose in the air and I could just tell that very mild bit was bothering the heck out of him. His teeth were recently floated so I don't think that was it. He is just SO much more relaxed in a sidepull. No more running off or throwing his head around.
I'm pretty sure that the same person who started his half-brother, Cary's Skjoni, started Kolur. Christine had started retraining Skjoni when we got him, but you could still feel some resistance to rein contact even when we got him. No matter - we don't ride with a lot of contact, and he soon relaxed. Cary uses a Freedom Bridle by Moss Rock Endurance on him, sometimes using the bit and sometimes using the side pull rings, but never with any contact to speak of. These horses may forgive a lot, but they don't forget so easily... Karen Thomas [EMAIL PROTECTED]
