There's a saying in TV sitcoms that goes "jumping the shark." What it means is when s situation comedy reaches the end of its life, the producers/directors may try to grab ratings in some (any) outlandish, desperate form. I think the saying goes back to the show, Happy Days, the one that was set in the 1950's, featuring the Cunningham family and Henry Winkler as The Fonz. I think - I didn't watch the show by that time - there was an episode the last season or so where the whole family left the Midwestern town, and the mundane setting they'd always been seen in, and went to Sea World or some such park in Florida or California. I think, somehow, as only happens on TV, The Fonz ended up water-skiing over a ramp and "jumping a shark." Kind of sad to see a good show drop to such lows, huh?
I can't imagine what made me think of that just now... Karen Thomas, NC -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Version: 7.5.432 / Virus Database: 268.16.7/620 - Release Date: 1/8/2007 4:12 PM
