I was nervous too and the first time I did it, I didn't use boots and Starri was so ouchy I put shoes back on. When I was ready to try again, I used boots (Old Macs) and it was a great transition. I would say don't ride him heavily until you have the boots. My Old Macs have just about had it and I'm going to try the Cavallos.
