>>> I am just a bit unclear. Did he observe that once the horses were fed
hay they just stopped moving the formed their food hierarchies? I wonder
how large the space was.

I never really bought his cause and effect either, Robyn. I'm not sure I
have the book they are talking about, but I have one or two others. Just
because you put a horse in a very unnatural situation (like a feed lot or
similar, or keep a horse stalled all the time) doesn't mean that a more
typical biggish pasture situation is bad - otherwise I think I'd see a lot
more horses with bad feet. I know a good many horses here who are barefoot,
have been barefoot for years, and they owners didn't really do anything
special to make them move - they just to if they have the room. NC is not
exactly a prime area for barefoot either, not if you believe his dry foot
philosophy - but silly us, we still have a lot of happy, barefoot horses
here, even some old ones, even in our notorious mud.

"The greatest enemy of the truth very often is not the lie- deliberate,
contrived and dishonest -- but the myth -- persistent, persuasive and
unrealistic."

"All truth passes through three stages.
First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident." ~ Arthur Schopenhauer
