Peruvians are typically ridden in walk or paso
llano (square four beat gait), and for faster,
sobreandando (stepping pace?). Some do a very
fast unsuspended broken pace called an entrepaso.
Some will do a fox trot under uneducated riders,
and a true canter has to be taught. Some
Peruvians can be taught to trot under saddle too,
but few people want to. So the "gearing" is
different than that of icelandics -- the horses
are very lateral.

Just the opposite -- many will trot at liberty
(they paso llano too), but the weight of a rider
brings the soft gaits to the fore.
