One of the first things that was mentioned is that the Icelandic Horse is not a pony. I forget how he words it, but he says something like "a few of them are pony-sized"....
How about like 99 and 44/100% are pony sized? How about maybe only two or three are over pony size? And he mentions, they're not ponies, they have short cannon bones. HELLO! that's a pony characteristic! It's very odd to try to misrepresent the breed like this... and on national TV, and on the HORSE CHANNEL.... does he think that every American horse owner is dumb? It seems like they have gotten into the habit of having people believe whatever they say without question, so they continue. Now.... wait.... what will happen is that we'll have a new list member come on, and they will insist that "it's a horse, not a pony, since they were told that by an icelander, and shouldn't an icelander know better than anyone else since they've had the breed for 1,000 years".... and then will be offended when given an explanation.... and go back to their peers who also believe the icelander.... and they will all sit around on Saturday after a ride and say, "oh, those people on the icehorses list don't know anything!" AND.... (excuse me if I vent!)... It was very very odd that he couldn't define tolt! C'mon! Really! C'mon! And he placed it incorrectly on the gait spectrum! not by mistake, that's where he *thinks* it is (of course he mentioned he went to Holar Horse College). AND.... he referred to the tolt as being "collected". Aaaargh! Judy http://icehorses.net http://clickryder.com
