Not on the trail necessarily, but as an exercise to do at home, in a round
pen or paddock.   Bareback is a great exercise for building balance, and
some horses just like it.  I haven't ridden bareback many times since I was
injured five years ago, but I do ride in my treeless saddles, and I try to
ride a part of every ride without stirrups.
