supplements?

I don't know about any menopausal type connection, but horses often do
become infertile with age. But, beyond that, all of their systems
eventually start becoming sluggish and even shutting down.. For some, it
may happen late teens or early twenties, while some stay vigorous and
healthy well into their thirties...or longer for ponies.

Janice, the old, old pony I kept here for a few months was over 40 when he
was here. He was very thin, despite our feeding him oodles of Triple Crown
Senior. He felt good though, and lived for about 3-4 years after he left
here - he was just here for a while after his owners sold their old farm,
while they were building a new house. Some horses can live for years thin
like that and still appear to feel pretty good, and be active enough. We
used the old pony for my nephew's birthday pony ride party, and had to put
him up and get another horse out because he was a handful. He had been a
hunter pony, and when he saw a bunch of kids, apparently he thought his job
was to go canter a jump course or something. :) It was annoying, but it
was awfully good to see the old boy acting so spry and energetic.
