I just got this off another horse list. I did not verify, so you may
want to call about it!!! Keep us updated.

This information is coming from my husband's workplace - the TN State
Fire Marshals Office, headquartered in Nashville, TN. They are
getting prepared for the potential emergency caused by Dam failure.

Dam in question: Wolf Creek Dam on the Cumberland river in KY. Behind
this dam sits the sixth largest resevior in the USA. For the last
year, Army Core of Engineers have been trying to drastically lower the
lake's levels. This has to be done very slowly, since two other dams
and reserviors sit downstream and are affected. The risk of this dam's
failure is substantial, and the resevior is still over half full.

If it fails, here's what will happen:

Flood will come down cumberland river. Estimated flood crest level
30-60 feet. Next it'll hit Old Hickory lake. Engineers at that dam
will be forced to open all floodgates in order to keep that dam from
failing. Old hickory lake will still flood, backing up ALL
tributaries. Smyrna, Murfreesboro, etc - will be effected. The river
below Old Hickory Dam is estimated to be 30-60 over flood stage. Next
this will hit Percy Priest Lake. Once again, all flood gates at that
dam will be opened in order to keep that dam from failing. Percy
Priest lake will flood as well.

In just 51 hours the flood will come down the Cumberland into
Nashville, TN. Titans stadium will be under 15-25 feet. State Fire
Marshalls office will be under 15 feet. etc, etc...

Flood will head down the Cumberland, affecting ALL tributaries and
causing flood stage to all rivers downstream.

If you are in an area that may be affected, and are in a low-lying
region. Contact your local emergency management agency for advice on
how to prepare.

One of the State fire Marshal's owns a house next to the Cumberland.
He is already moving personal possessions into a storage facility
located in a non-risk zone. You may want to consider the same.

Good luck!
