<The question is am I creating a monster

Try to take the time to separate them early on, the longer you wait the
worse it can be. Just take one for a short walk. Later take the other. You
can check comfort levels and see where you need to work at it or get lucky
and not a big problem.

Where I am there are only two horses. The mare is used to us leaving. If I
haven't taken Lappi out for a while, she is a little nuttier than if I am
consistant. I am going to guess Lappi would freak. No one has ever taken
the mare away from him.

I have asked several times for the owner to at least take her out of the
barn to the yard just to check but this has not interested her. I need to
get off my butt and do this myself. Some day someone may ride her on the
trail without me and I really wish my horse was prepared.

The sooner you do this then it is a little more 'what is to be expected'
than a big shock. And as always-each has their own personality and some are
more accepting than others.

Best of luck,
Susan
