Jaspar, dominate horse in my herd and Fox who likes to boss around newcomers, both took a whiff of Gallant Boy and went "ooh!" and sauntered off like "better not mess with the MAN" and I wonder if its cause he is an old stallion or if they remember him, his scent, when growing up. He is jaspar's sire as you know, and Fox's uncle. they arent affectionate toward him but mind their manners whereas Tivar ignores him like he doesnt exist and Nasi keeps trying to aggravate him. Also when we brought Fox home, same thing, Jaspar and he kept their distance from one another but no power plays until several months later when Fox made a takeover move and jas put him in his place :) i used to go there and take GB out of his stall and wash him and release him into a pasture next to the bachelor herd where he would gallop up and down the fence and act appropriately fierce for the youngsters, and Jaspar would have been out there. Fox would have been stalled in the barn with GB and see him paraded past for breeding... the SADDEST thing... at a funeral Sunday I heard that Fox's two year old brother was forced to stand on concrete cross ties for "punishment" all DAY and pawed til he foundered himself and he never got over it and had to be put down. I was so upset to hear that! I told the guy who bought him to let him mature a little, he would be a great horse like Fox but he wouldn't listen! The horse bucked him and he did the cross tie thing. That made me furious. But another couple had wanted to buy him so bad and missed out and they told me about it, the woman had tears in her eyes! Janice -- yipie tie yie yo
