Dear Steph, 
   This sounds like they are going to do the dex suppression test (which is a 
two-trip thing), and not the ACTH test (which is a one-trip thing, and cheaper).
   Please go on the EquineCushings yahoo list and talk to the experts there.  
On that list, Eleanor Kellon (THE vet who is probably the most expert on 
Cushings in the entire world) told me data that the ACTH test is even more 
accurate than the dex suppression test.  And my understanding is that the dex 
suppression test can also be risky for a Cushings horse (potentially causing a 
laminitic attack).
   I have been told that local vets tend to do the dex suppression text because 
that is what they learned back in vet school, not because it is the best today.
