wanda -- just wanted to say that i had trotting poles set up for stjarni yesterday, just three or four poles, maybe 10' apart. and while the first couple times were a little rocky, by the fifth time he was doing a gorgeous smooth long-strieded trot over all of them. i sat with my hands on his withers, floppy long reins, leaning a little bit forwards; after the poles i picked up my reins and asked for a canter. we did this exercise a few times, associating it with a voice command; it seems to be going well for us. just a suggestion for you to try -- maybe wider spacing of the poles, a looser rein, or a more forward-leaning upper body? good luck! --vicka
