Sina can be pacey if she's uncomfortable, but she also trots in the field.
When I first got her, I was very, very stiff from an accident, and then she
kept outgrowing saddles. I came to realize that she's multi-gaited, not
excessively pacey at all, and when she step-paced, it meant that something
was wrong.

Since she weaned the baby, I've been trying to build her back up slowly,
expecting to have to fight a few step-pace battles. When the weather and
work permits, I've been riding her very lightly, mostly at a walk and doing
some ground work with her. Today, I not only asked for gait, but I
specifically asked for foxtrot. I got it, and she even took a step or two
of pure trot. I'd mis-adjusted my stirrups and they were a hole too short
to post easily, so I had to readjust them before continuing to trot.

Here's a short video where you can see her go into foxtrot, then change over
to trot, as I tried and failed to post. Oops. My bad.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPxIro9-H-M I'll be more careful with the
stirrup length next time - not to mention that I SHOULD be able to post
without stirrups.
