We had the third driest January on record, that meant cold weather as the
rain sure does warm things up. We are only 2 miles from the coast but in a
cold valley and it froze nearly every night into the low 20's. Our pond even
froze over. Ferne is on the coast and probably did not ever freeze as the
sea really keeps things warmer in the winter and colder in the summer in
this area.

Now it is cloudy and we are hoping for rain this week. The pastures look
like they have been mowed and really need some rain as this is our growing
season.

In Kenya where we were the rains generally stop by December and this year
they continued into January. I am sure we missed out on seeing more lions as
the grass was so tall. Spooky when you are walking though.
